I got a promo at work today and this illustration by Lina Boden caught my eye (really the fantastic afro caught my eye)

And I went to her site to check out her work and totally fell in love! Her illustration style is so richly complex, while being super simple at the same time (especially the pencil drawings). Don’t you agree?

People are always complimenting Robert on his really cool pocket squares, and since I made them I decided to make some extras for everyone else. They’re up and available in my shop on Etsy. In keeping with the theme of this week- images I’ve grabbed and liked- I’m showing off the images of Katherine Wolkoff. I was introduced to her work through her deer bed photos- which are so beautiful and serene, but I really fell in love with the rest of the work too. I especially like the Nocturne series.

I’m a grabber- and have been for as long as I can remember. I take things out of magazines, from books, and online, to create inspiration boards, books and files. I’ve been doing it long before Pinterest came around and made it so easy to remember where you grabbed something from. I thought I’d share some of the images and scrap I’ve grabbed along the way.

These are from photographer Liz Wolfe. I love the sweetly macabre nature of her work. The poppy colors, the sugar and then the nasty little bits.

The illustrations are by René Gruau, who was a close collaborator with Cristian Dior.

I’m loving these backstage images by photographer Victoria Will. What is it about behind the scene photos from fashion shows? To me they’re more interesting than shots of the show.

Ruined Polaroids

I am really love William Miller’s series of photos of ruined polaroids. He bought an old SX-70 camera at a yard sale that, “sometimes spills out two pictures at a time and the film often gets stuck in the gears, exposing and mangling the images in unpredictable ways,” he has explained.

The bottom one reminds me of Rothko paintings, and the others look like odd landscapes. You can check out the rest of William Miller’s work on his website here.

Colour Lover

As you know, I LOVE color! And I’ve been working on a fun (secret… shhhhh) project with a friend, and have been looking for inspiration. Colourlovers.com is a favorite website of mine because not only can you browse millions of colors, palates and patterns, but you create your own color palates from photos. Its a really handy tool- and super fun toy!

Here’s my most recent palate that I’ve been working on for Project X, and the photos that inspired the palate. I’ll be sharing more about Project X soon, so stay tuned!

Happy Anniversary

Last night Rob and I went out for a really A-maZing dinner at Colicchio and Sons to celebrate our anniversary. The food was absolutely divine- we had the chef’s tasting menue and wine parings (which have now made me a little fuzzy today)- and what really stood out was how great their service was. The dining room is very large and you’re far enough away from other tables to really feel as though you’re in your own world. And the staff are some of the best in the biz- they even printed a personalized menue saying Happy Anniversary Robert & Mackenzie- and brought us this really special dessert. I would highly reccommend going there for dinner- and if its a special occassion be sure to let them know- they’ll make it even more special.

And on a very personal note, I just wanted to say how much I love you Rob- every day is a fun adventure with you- and I’m so glad you’re my other. It feels like just yesterday we were dancing the night away!

And last, but not least, I wanted to thank all of our good friends who came to help us celebrate and have been with us through our journey. xoxo
